Purpose of design Ensure the viability of a Microwave link.
Many different factors can affect the performance of a link. First and foremost, we need to establish LOS. To ensure LOS you must account for the Fresnel Zone of the RF signal. The information necessary to do this are the site coordinates and the proposed or existing tower heights for antennas. Using this information and accounting for the curvature of the earth and ground cover (buildings, tress, etc..) we can establish if we have LOS. 3

Once location and LOS of site established:
We use our design tools to assess the viability of the link, considering atmospheric conditions and other variables that can affect RF performance. These variables will dictate maximum capacity of the link, dish sizes, availability, etc… This information is critical to the performance of the link. This information is critical to obtain an FCC license for a licensed frequency. The FCC will review the path profile and will approve or deny the license based on the spectral efficiency, or lack thereof, of the proposed link as reflected in the specs of the report.

Design services provided by Tessco
(Pathloss, vendor provided tools) This powerful RF planning tool instills confidence in our designs by backing up our RF knowledge with the hard numbers to support it. We are also proficient at using all of our vendors proprietary design tools such as LINK planner and R-Planner to support projects where a specific vendor has been called for. Tessco uses industry standard Pathloss 5.1 for our microwave designs and reports.

FCC Coordination Tessco can assist with FCC license coordination by initiating the process and assisting with planning, design, and the documentation needed for the application.
