TV Studio Shoot How to set one up

Types of studio shoot Chat show – interviewer with guests
Game show – multiple participants at one time News broadcast – often with people in different parts of the studio

Studio Shoot What’s important? Microphones Headphones to hear
Lighting on camera Green Screen H&S More than 1 camera

Sound / Microphone Make sure you have an external microphone – not just the built in one You don’t need wind protectors, as you’re indoors You may need more than 1 microphone if people are in different studio positions.

Sound check When setting an interview up have a chat with the subject. During this chat ask them to say yes or no and answer a few questions. The camera operator / sound operator should check the quality of the sound at this stage – any issues – move (OR turn items off such as computers, fridges or mobile phones if inside) and check again If you are using multiple mics, ensure their recording levels are similar so it will be easier to edit

Studio Lights NEVER turn our studio lights on by using the switches on the lights! You will remove them from the lighting desk. You will be shown how to turn them on and off properly

Green Screen Make sure it is as smooth as possible with no creases or shadows on. Light it up so it is as close to one shade of green as possible

PRACTICE TASK As a whole class, you will go to the studio and set up for a multi camera interview. This must include the green screen and multiple cameras and you should use the studio lights

Share the footage! You don’t need to edit anything just make sure EVERYONE in your group has a raw copy – upload it to YouTube and share the link between you all. This needs to be uploaded under the heading ‘practice shoot’ in LO1
