Synthesis and Characterization of Novel Donor/Acceptor Molecules
Based on Propellanes: A Probe of Nonclassical Conjugation Frankie Ann McCormick, Department of Chemistry, Northern Michigan University Nonclassical conjugation gives rise to charge transfer: UV absorption and fluorescence spectra indicate significant electronic interaction through the bicyclo[1.1.1]pentane. Potential applications of these molecules include optics, molecular electronics, and energy transfer. UV-vis show more intense, longer wavelength absorptions relative to the comparable p-substituted aryl alkynes: Emission spectra exhibit a pronounced solvent effect due to substantial charge transfer in the excited state: Normalized spectra/ Excitation 284 nm All spectra in cyclohexane
