UNIT QUESTION What is the definition of Mean
What is the definition of Median What is the definition of Mode
3
ESSENTIAL QUESTION Can you determine which “M” to use in different situations?
4
MEAN The mean is the average of a group of numbers.
The mean of the numbers: 1, 4, 2, and 5 is 3 First step: add all of the numbers =12 Second step: divide the total by the amount of numbers (4). 12/4=3
5
MEDIAN The median is the middle number of a group of numbers
The median of the numbers: 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 is 5. If there is an even amount of numbers: 2, 4, 6 and 8, you add the two middle numbers and divide by 2. The median: 4+6=10, divided by 2 is 5.

MODE The mode is the number that occurs the most in a group of numbers. The mode of the numbers:1, 1, 2, 1, 2, 2, 3, 1 is 1. There are four 1’s, three 2’s and one 3. There are more 1’s than any other number.
