2 Publicly funded ICT R&D
TF on R&D (26/04/2012) discussed the feasibility to provide more complete data on publicly funded ICT R&D (BERD cross-breakdown by industry and by source of funds) The aim is to provide stronger statistical support for measuring key performance target set by “Digital Agenda for Europe” - by 2020, annual public investment in ICT R&D to double its current (2007) EU level Science Technology Innovation Statistics November 2012

3 Conclusions from the TF on R&D (26/04/2012)
“It was agreed that by the end of September 2012: All the countries will produce and send to Eurostat data in Table CE10-ISIC4-NACE2 of the joint core Eurostat/OECD Questionnaire (“Total intramural business enterprise R&D expenditure (BERD) by industry and source of funds”) This data will be compiled since reference year 2007 onwards (if feasible in accordance with NACE Rev.2), but at least for 2009” Science Technology Innovation Statistics November 2012

Comment on their plans and timing for providing missing data in Table CE10-ISIC4-NACE2, since reference year 2007 onwards Consider that data provision in Table CE10 should continue on a systematic basis as part of the regular R&D data collection rounds Science Technology Innovation Statistics November 2012

6 Transnationally coordinated R&D
Eurostat launched third round of experimental data collection in May 2012 Eurostat provided the countries with: List of joint R&D programmes (Europe-wide, bilateral and multilateral) established by the JOREP project (DG RTD's study) Methodological Report on Data Quality of JOREP Data (updates) required for the period plus the names of transnational public R&D performers and programmes covered in the last reference year 2010 Science Technology Innovation Statistics November 2012

7 Outcomes from the third round
Reduced data gaps and improved data quality Increased data availability 26 countries sent data (compared to 22 in the second round): 22 MSs, NO, CH, HR and MK 4 MSs sent data for first time - LV, MT, SE and UK Missing data for 5 MSs (DK, GR, FR, IT, LU) IS and TR Science Technology Innovation Statistics November 2012
