History of Iranian Population census
SRTC History of Iranian Population census The first full enumeration in Iran was taken in 1956 that almost all of people was enumerated and information on sex, literacy status, economy activity, marital status and housing characteristics was collected. After next censuses were conducted every 10 years up to 2006. The 2011 Iranian Population and Housing Census is the first census which is to be implemented on a five-year interval after the previous census in 2006.

SRTC Census Goals The main goals of census is collecting basic information on: Population characteristics such as age, sex, migration, marital status, economic activity, etc, Housing characteristics including occupancy status, floor area, etc.

Census organization The census organization has 5 main groups as:
SRTC Census organization The census organization has 5 main groups as: Designing group, Information Technology group, Supervision and Evaluation group, Public Relations, publicity and Dissemination group, Organization and Logistics group. and some other groups such as “Post Enumeration Survey group” and “Processing and Extraction group”.

Designing group Some Functions:
Study and procurement of the population and housing census plan. Study of international recommendations for population and housing census. Determination of technical and executive methods of census. Procurement of technical census forms and manuals. Preparation of pre-tests plan. Preparation of the final tabulation patterns. Procurement of training plan. SRTC Designing group

SRTC Information Technology group Some Functions: Study and assessment of data processing methods in previous censuses and their weaknesses. Study and assessment of data processing methods in other countries. Determination of quantity and quality of equipments, requirement, manpower and expenses which required for data capturing. Procurement of required software. Preparation of data process plan.

Public Relations, publicity and Dissemination group
SRTC Public Relations, publicity and Dissemination group Some Functions: Study and assessment of the publicity activities in previous censuses in Iran and worldwide. Study of all common publicity and advertisement efficiency in Iran. Procurement of slogan, stamp and several kinds of advertisement. Assessment of publicity activities in all provinces. Supervision in publication of census results and information.

Organization and Logistics group
SRTC Organization and Logistics group Some Functions: Preparation of timetable for group's activities. Study and Assessment of the executive organization in previous censuses. Updating and correcting the maps of all the urban and rural areas according to the last division changes. Preparation of executive organization chart of census. Determination of executive organization and estimated manpower requirement. Procurement of necessary supplies

Supervision and Evaluation group
SRTC Supervision and Evaluation group Some Functions: Preparation of supervision plan. Supervision and evaluation of activities of all groups, according to the timetable. Supervision of training, field operation and post-enumeration survey.

Census Forms Iran’s 2011 census forms are:
SRTC Census Forms Iran’s 2011 census forms are: 4 technical forms or questionnaires: Form 1 – Listing, Form 2 – Household Questionnaire, Form 3 – Institutional Household Questionnaire, Form 4 – Village Questionnaire, and some executive or financial forms.

SRTC Census Topics Demographic characteristics such as: Relationship, Sex, Marital status, Birth date and age, Fertility, Mortality Migration characteristics such as: Place of birth, Nationality, Duration of residence, Place of previous residence.

SRTC Data Processing Data processing is the process of converting raw data into usable information. The process consists of various successive phases such as data capturing, coding, editing and tabulation. The choice of an appropriate method of processing is determined by the circumstances of each country. Raw Data Usable Information

SRTC Data capture methods Data capture converts the information obtained in the census to a format that can be interpreted by a computer. Data capture methods include Manual Data Entry, Optical Capture Methods (consisting of the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR)), Optical Character Recognition (OCR), Intelligent Character Recognition (ICR), Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) and the Internet.

Coding Coding Methods:
SRTC Coding Coding is done where a question is open and should be answered as a text (such as occupation). Coding Methods: Manual, Computer-Assisted Coding (CAC), Automatic Coding (AC), Combination of above methods.

Editing and Imputation
SRTC Editing and Imputation Raw data files contain errors of many kinds, such as: errors generated by the respondents errors caused by enumerators when, for example, they misunderstand the respondents answers errors caused by data processing operations such as data capture and coding Editing is an operation that identify invalid and inconsistent responses and corrects or imputes true values.

Census Data Dissemination
SRTC Census Data Dissemination Primary results of the census will be disseminated at the end of Nov 2011. Descriptive results at total country, provinces and township levels will be ready about 6 month latter. Census results will be available through website and will published some of them. The 2 percent file of census data will be available for researchers. Detailed results for all geographical small areas can be extracted using the new version of Pars software.

Census Evaluation Coverage Errors Content Errors
SRTC Census Evaluation Errors occur at all stages of the census operation and can classified into two categories. arise due to omissions, erroneous inclusions, or duplications of persons or households Coverage Errors arise due to the incorrect reporting or recording of the characteristics of persons or households Content Errors

SRTC Census Evaluation Census evaluation is undertaken in order to provide users with a level of confidence when utilizing the data, and to explain errors in the census results. Numerous methods are available for estimating coverage and content errors of censuses. Demographic analysis and Post Enumeration Survey (PES) are two major methods for evaluating census data.
