Supplies Please pick up a supply list near the door. If you already picked one up in another 6th grade class- they are the same and you do not need an additional copy. 1- red composition book 1- red two pocket folder with three prongs 1- two pocket folder with prongs- design of your choice (to be left in class) Small sticky notes Highlighters- green, yellow, pink, blue

Curriculum Reading, Writing, Grammar, Speaking and Listening
Informational and Literary reading & writing defending responses with evidence from the text Annotation, analyzing text Making notes as they read and making connections to other texts, real world, prior knowledge, etc. Vocabulary using Greek/Latin roots, context clues, academic/content vocabulary (infer, context, defend, etc.) Google docs, student accounts for collaboration

Homework Yes, there will be daily homework to practice skills from class. Read (for enjoyment and book reflections, literary elements) Interactive Notebook- glue, cut, practice Spelling/vocabulary/grammar practice Unfinished classwork Continue writing in journal Pre-reading of upcoming text Additional research/writing time for projects Absent/make-up or missing work

Grading Students may receive grades for practice classwork and homework. This includes daily “walk-in” work. (20% of grade) Larger assignments such as assessments, projects, written response, research, creative writing work will receive more points than daily work. These are considered formal and informal assessments. (80% of grade) Use the Parent Vue Portal on Kyrene website to check grade and work completion status. Students can check grades via Student Vue with their student number. Contact school office if you need an account.

Core Enrichment Students will rotate through their core classes for more time during the time frame of fourth period Monday is extra time with Period 1 Tuesday is extra time with Period 3 Thursday is extra time with Period 5 Friday is extra time with Period 7 All of sixth grade will have 20 mins of personal silent reading time at the beginning of Core Enrichment All students will need a reading book every day of Core

Bus Information Make sure to know your bus before the first day and write it down.
In boundary bus information can be found on the district website under departments and the transportation link You can get bus information downstairs at the Transportation table. Write it down for your student so they have it the first day Busses leave promptly after school.
