School Day 7:30 – Buses drop students off at school 7:30 – Doors open
7:35 – Attendance taken 2:10 – End of day 2:20 – Children should be picked up (Teacher is supervision not available after 2:20; few exceptions) 3:20 – Clubs end 3:25 – 3:45 – Late buses arrive (not available for students who stay after for detention) 6:00 – Latchkey ends

Attendance Be on time – doors open at 7:30.
Homeroom begins at 7:35 Students that are late to school (after 7:35) Must receive a late pass. Consequence will be issued for multiple tardies Link to: Handbook

Drop Off Locations The front of the school is for bus drop off ONLY!
For the safety of the students, please follow the traffic flow rules. 5TH grade students are to enter through the main entrance in the front of the building. 6th grade students will be dropped off and enter through exit 7 (across from the fields). 6th grade students with a math homeroom can also enter through the main entrance. If you are dropping off both 5th and 6th grade students, please understand that students are allowed to enter either of those entrances. But to keep an even traffic flow we stress that each grade follow the recommended procedure. Link to: Traffic Flow Map and Directions

Reporting Absences Parents are expected to notify the school when students are absent. Call press 4, then 1 Please give all requested information Student must be absent for 2 days or more for homework to be collected in the main office. Send a parent/doctor note with your child when they return to school.

Breakfast Program Grab and Go Breakfast Program
Students are welcome to arrive for breakfast at 7:15 through exit 7A, or students can check in with homeroom teacher (7:30-7:42) and then report to the cafeteria to pick up breakfast Students return to homeroom and eat breakfast Free and Reduced breakfast is available to students who are eligible. (Same as for lunch)

Fifth Grade Heterogeneous groupings for ELA, Math, Science, SS, PE, Health, and Expressive Arts (Music, Art, Computers, Spanish) Special Education students are placed in the appropriate class based on their individual education plan (IEP) Students are given extra support through our instructional support program for Math and English/Language Arts

Language Arts Literacy Students will receive a single period of Science Social Studies Health/Physical Education Expressive Arts Lunch/Recess

Music Program 5th Grade Band 6th Grade Band
Orchestra (5th and 6th Grade) Students are scheduled for individual lessons once a week during their Physical Education period, Expressive Arts period, and/or Lunch. Chorus Students practice once a week during their Lunch period.

Grading Students are graded numerically for all academic subjects, art, world language, general music and health. 90% - 100% A Excellent 80% - 89% B Good 70% - 79% C Satisfactory 65% - 69% D Poor 64% - Below F Failing Students are graded P (pass) or N (needs improvement) for Physical Education and Computers. Students will receive a grade of S (Satisfactory) or U (Unsatisfactory) for Band, Chorus, & Orchestra. A grade of N (Needs Improvements) or U (Unsatisfactory) will exclude a student from the Honor Roll.

Student grades are posted weekly. Please check your child’s grades consistently. Report cards are posted about one week after the end of each marking period. Parents/Guardians do need to sign up for Gradebook Link to: Genesis Gradebook

Academically Ineligible
Students must carry passing grades in all of their classes to be eligible for participation in extracurricular activities. As noted in the Grant School Student/Parent Handbook, any student that ends the marking period with a grade less than 65 will be removed from all extracurricular activities. This includes Band, Orchestra and Chorus. At the end of the next marking period the student’s grades will be reviewed to determine eligibility.

Locker Camp Schedules and locker assignments will be available the third week of August. Students will be permitted to come to Grant School on August 23, 24, and 27 from 9:00-12:00 to practice their lockers. An adult must accompany the students. Have a wonderful summer!
