What is something nice someone has done for you in the pass week or two? Remember Compliments Cost Nothing!

4 Goals for Today: I can explain what disrespect means.
I can explain what a bystander contributes in a disrespectful situation. Talk through the goals for the day. You may even want your students to summaries what the goals for today are in their notebook.

5 List 5 ways someone can disrespect you.
Give them 1 to 2 minutes to list this in their notebook. If needed let them talk with a partner to give them ideas. If Time: Have them share their ideas with their partners. Then record some examples up on the board or in the teacher’s notebook.

6 What is two ways you can be respectful verse disrespectful?
Change to Respectful What is two ways you can be respectful verse disrespectful? Have them look at their list. Is there an easy way to change them from disrespectful to respectful? Can they name two ways? For example: I dislike when someone talks when I’m talking. Something I can do to change this would be to stop talking, remembering that this may bother someone else so I won’t do it to anyone else, or talk to the person that is having me feel disrespected.

When we see someone being disrespected what do we do? Do we let it happen or do we stand up to help the person being disrespected? Give them a chance to think and discuss this as a group.

What are similar between a candle and someone being disrespectful?

What does a candle need to stay lite? What does someone disrespecting someone else need? A candle needs oxygen and someone being disrespectful needs attention.

11 BIG Idea Just like a candle needs air to stay lite a person needs the attention of people around them to have the disrespectful acts to continue.

12 Reflection What is a good way to help decrease the attention a person who is disrespecting others gets? What is one thing you are going to do in the next 3 weeks to help decrease the attention of disrespect acts?
