4. What Are District Grants
Rotary Foundation Makes Two Types of Grants
Global Grants for Large International Projects that involve the cooperation of Two or More Clubs and Districts from around the World
District Grants are intended to support the Projects and efforts of local Rotary clubs

5. What Are District Grants
Rotary Foundation (NOT District) Funds for Rotary Club Supported Projects
Projects are usually smaller in size
Projects completed in shorter timeframe (3-6 months)
Projects involve the active participation (usually) of the local Rotary Club
Can be done in conjunction with another organization

6. What Do District Grants Support
Club Projects – About $40,000 each year
Interact
Rotaract
Youth Exchange
Summer Scholars – Scholarship Program
Club and (DDF) District funding only—no TRF match

7. Where Does the $$ Come From?
It is a partial return of Contributions to the Rotary Foundation 3 Years Ago
50% comes back to District 6880
50% of what comes back is eligible to fund District Grants
The other 50% is available to fund Global Grants and Polio Plus
In an Average Year we will have about $40,000 available for District Grants

Feb. 15, Clubs complete Grant Management Seminar
March 27,2018 Clubs sign MOU’s (deadline) (required every year)
April 28, Final Reports Due on District Grants
May 15, District Grant Applications due ( Grants)
June 1, Final review of District Grant Apps by Committee
July 1, District Block Grant (for all clubs) submitted to TRF
Sept. 1, District Grant Club Awards announced(approximately)
Nov. 1, District Grants funds released to Clubs
Jan. 1, Projects should start on or before this date
Feb. 15, Project progress report due
April 1, Projects Completed by this date
April 28, Final Reports due ( Grants) for review and approval by district grants & stewardship chair 1

9. Application Process
District grant may be used for local or international projects.
Some activities are NOT permitted – more later
Read Grant Terms and Conditions, RI has Final Decision
Grants Committee reviews and asks for revisions or passes on for final vote.
May have more requests than $ available – we will reduce request to match what we have.
Clubs that Give to the Foundation have Better Chance of Full Funding.

10. Prohibited Activities
Purchase of Land or buildings
Fundraising activities
Expenses related to Rotary activities-conferences, anniversary celebrations, etc.
Unrestricted cash donations to an agency
Activities for an expense already paid
Rotary signage costing over $500.00
Rotary cannot own any equipment purchased

11. Permitted Activities Conducting educational seminars
Repair of existing buildings
New construction in parks or public areas
Purchase of equipment for organizations
Food backpack programs
Scholarships (no payments to individuals)
Town Welcome Signs
International projects

12. Plan Your Project Get two club members committed to project
Plan the scope of activities
Find a way to get Rotarians involved
Get cost and time estimates
Coordinate with any municipal or other entities
Coordinate with other Rotary clubs
Make a plan for Publicity
Have Contingency Plans if we can’t fund your entire request

14. Conduct Your Project Don’t Start before getting final approval
Don’t spend any money before final approval
Save your receipts!!! Invoices are not receipts
Try to run as many expenses as possible through the club rather than individual members
Let us know if things change
If project goes over budget, can we get more Grant money? NO!

15. What if We Can’t Do Our Project
The final report is due by April 28,2019. The projects are to be completed by then.

We will work to try and accommodate changes
May have to cancel grant, but you can reapply

16. Prepare Your Final Report
Describe what was done
Show what was spent
Attach copies of your receipts
Make sure your numbers match
Sign the report
Scan and the report

18. Getting Reimbursed We operate District Grants as a reimbursement
If we provide funds up front you have to keep them separate from club finances
Be timely in preparing your final report
Check goes to President or Secretary
Rotary allows only one District Grant year to be open at a time – meaning we can’t get funds for the current grant year if last year’s projects are still open. Your problems become our problems.

19. Common Mistakes Income and Expenses don’t match
Buying Equipment, but no Rotary participation
Incomplete set of receipts
Only having one member responsible for the project
Starting too early
Providing way too much detail about project, both in the application and final report
Make Grant Request for Round Amounts, i.e. $1, not $ It’s an estimate.
