2 Before Greek Poetry and Fables
Greek poems and stories are the oldest in the Western world An epic is a long poem about heroic deeds The first great epics were the Illiad and the Odyssey by Homer

3 Before The Illiad is about a battle for the city of Troy
The Odyssey is the story of Odysseus, a Greek hero Greeks believed these stories real and a part of history

4 Before A fable is a short story that teaches a lesson
Aesop wrote many fables still passed on today

5 Before Greek Drama A drama is a story told by actors
Tragedies (overcome difficulties but fails) and comedies (good endings)

6 Before Greek Art and Architecture
Art and sculptures expressed Greek ideas and beliefs The Parthenon – famous temple dedicated to Athena

7 During Task 1: As a table, complete a bullet-summary of the Illiad and Odyssey using textbook pages You will also bullet-point what Homer’s stories taught the Greeks. 5 bullet points each for Illiad, Odyssey, and Homer’s teaching through epics Task 2: Read the three short Aesop’s Fables provided to you. Answer questions 1-2 at the bottom of the page This must be completed in class. Classwork not completed will be subject to High Expectations next Wednesday. When completed with all of the above, read pages These pages will tell you more about Greek drama, art, and architecture

8 After Have your work out so that I may come around and read your answers Once it has been checked, you may put your stuff away
