Weeks = As individuals, design a single-family house Conceptualize a design Create sketches Build a model Create presentation drawings Present your design ** See weekly schedule for specific due dates. Remember, assignments are due within the first 10 minutes of class!

Weeks 9-14 Production of construction documents needed to obtain a building permit Including but not limited to: Site Plans, sections, elevations Structural Door, window, and finish schedules FINAL HAND-IN of full-size construction documents at the end of the term. ARCH D paper size.

Introduction to the SKETCHBOOK
As part of the Major Project, you will be required to complete a sketchbook. This will be a record of your thoughts, your actions, your decision-making process that will span over the entire semester. What should your sketchbook look like? YOU DECIDE! Drawings, notes, photos, magazine cut-outs… It is a physical demonstration of what you are thinking. It must be used and updated each week. I will be providing the sketch book to you in our 2nd class. It will need to be handed in as part of your Week 7 presentation.

Design Process The project delivery process may be linear and orderly but the design process is anything but…it is circular, multi-phasic, re-iterative and often goes in many directions at once…

What about housing? Housing is a very personal thing to design…
We all live somewhere – a house, an apartment, rez, a room, a tent, a hobbit hole! If we live on the street we are HOMELESS. What about housing in Canada? In groups – brainstorm 1 of the following aspects of the house: Geometric abstraction Social activity Biological comfort Business enterprise Construction method/technique Cultural expression

Requirement / Client Program Pre-Design Schematic Drafting Design Development Contract Document Tender / Contract Construction Commissioning Post-Construction Building Management Project Delivery Process STAGES Client identifies potential project, collects pertinent data and prepares internal program of requirements. Client presents internal program to Consultants. Consultant evaluates parameters of the project and advises project feasibility and requests additional information if required. Consultant provides and obtains client acceptance of a general design concept.

Requirement / Client Program Pre-Design Schematic Drafting Design Development Contract Document Tender / Contract Construction Commissioning Post-Construction Building Management Project Delivery Process STAGES Consultant develops and obtains client acceptance of a precise design proposal based on the approved schematic design. Consultant prepares detailed Working Drawings, Specifications and Tender Documents based on the approved final design proposal. Consultant assists client and makes recommendations to client with respect to tenders procedures, tender opening, analysis of bids and award of contract to successful contractor(s).
