2. What is Dual Enrollment?
DE is a program in Georgia that allows eligible 9th – 12th grade students to take college courses and earn both high school and college credit for the courses taken. Approved college courses taken are free of charge for students and do not count toward students’ maximum hourly caps for HOPE Scholarship or HOPE Grant.

Eligible 9th – 12th grade high school students.
How is DE funded?
Colleges are paid through General Assembly funding by Georgia Student Finance Commission percent of tuition, fees, and books are covered. Occasionally, some course-related costs my still apply (lab fees, special supplies, etc).
What DE courses are available to students?
Academics and technical courses are available. They may be taught on college campuses, high school campus and/or online.
Do students receive high school credit for college DE courses taken?
Yes, students earn both high school and college credit DE courses. Grades must be recorded on both transcripts and are factored into the GPA.
Can high school students enroll in DE courses during the Summer term?
Yes, beginning the summer after the 9th grade and ending the summer after 11th grade.
Do DE courses count toward hourly caps for HOPE Scholarship or HOPE Grant?
No, approved college courses taken through DE do not count toward students’ maximum hourly caps for HOPE Scholarship or HOPE Grant.
Can students enroll as a part-time or full-time DE student?
Yes, students can enroll as either a part-time or full-time DE student. Part time DE students must also be enrolled in regular high school classes.
Can full-time DE students still attend dances and participate in high school extracurricular activities?
Of course!

6. Course Transfer
There are 27 general education courses taught by TCSG colleges that are guaranteed to transfer to any of the University System of Georgia’s colleges and universities. TCSG has transfer agreements with many of Georgia’s private colleges as well.

8. Admissions Requirements for Students
Technical College System of Georgia:
Meet minimum standardized test scores (Accuplacer, ELA EOC, ACT or SAT). If students do not pass any portion of the test on the first attempt, they are allowed to retest once, that one school year. If they still don’t pass, they are allowed to test once, each year after the first year of two failed attempts.
University System of Georgia:
Meet minimum ACT or SAT scores and GPA requirements (varies by institution)
Private Colleges:
Meet minimum testing requirements and GPA requirements (varies by institution)

For Floyd County GPA purposes, 5 points will be added to the student’s final grade in each DE course. These points will NOT be added to the grade that goes on the college transcript.
.5 point is added to the DE grade by GSFC when calculating HOPE GPA.
DE courses count towards the 12 classes required to earn the Honors seal.
AP or DE? This is an individual decision. Items to consider:
DE courses are accepted by most colleges in Georgia and even many out of State schools.
If a student passes a DE course, college credit is earned.
DE courses and grades go on the student’s college and high school transcript.
In order to earn college credit for an AP course, a student must make a qualifying score on the AP exam no matter his/her grade in the class.
Some very competitive colleges give extra weighting to AP courses when calculating GPA for admission purposes.

15. Steps to becoming a DE Student…
Students and parents/guardians must attend a Dual Enrollment meeting with the High School Counselor or Dual Enrollment Coordinator.
Students must apply and be accepted to a participating eligible post-secondary institution.
Students must meet all Dual Enrollment application and testing deadlines.
Students must take and pass required college entrance exams and meet/maintain the required GPA.
Students, parents/guardians, and school counselors must sign and submit a Student Participation Agreement each semester or quarter enrolled.
Students must complete the Georgia Student Finance Commission application each semester or quarter enrolled to receive payment for courses.

16. Final Steps… Students must…
Attend college orientation (required by some colleges).
Complete additional forms required by college (FERPA, etc.)
Set up necessary college-related online accounts ( , grades, etc.).
Register for college courses.
Submit college course schedule to Counselor or DE Coordinator.
Contact Counselor or DE Coordinator before withdrawing from any DE course.
