5.3 Solving Systems of Linear Equations by Elimination
Essential Question: How do you solve systems of linear equations by elimination? I would like to do the journal packet activity with the tearing of the triangle angles (Activity 1) but with the 3.1 review activity and tearing out the journal pages I donβt think that there is going to be enough time.

Vocabulary Review A system of equations is a set of two or more linear equations that contain two or more variables. A solution of a system of equations is an ordered pair that is a solution of all of the equations. It is where the equations intersect on the graph.

Steps Line up variables and constants
One variable must have opposite coefficient Add to cancel out one variable Solve for the variable left over Substitute answer in for the same variable in one of the original equations Solve for the other variable Check the solution
