8 About 53% of Brazilians are European descendant, 38% are mix European and African, 6% African, .5% Asian and .4% indigenous. Many people of Japanese descent live in Brazil. More Japanese people live in San Paulo than in any other city outside of Japan. Brazilian children go to school 4 hours a day. They attend classes either in the morning or afternoon. After school, some spend time in sports or clubs. School is required from age 7 to 14. Education is free in Brazil all the way to college but they have to take a rigorous national exam. In Brazil, people as young as 16 can vote.

The biggest monkeys in the Amazon are the howler monkeys. Grow up to 3 feet tall. Three toed sloths spend most of their time hanging upside down with their hooked claws. They even eat, sleep and have their babies in this position.

Anaconda can grow as long as 40 feet. It’s one of the largest snakes in the world. They are not poisonous, they squeeze their prey to death and then swallow it whole. Anacondas have been known to swallow an entire cow. It would take weeks to digest such a big animal. Piranhas attacks humans only when their natural food supplies are low. Dolphins are usually saltwater creatures, but the pink and gray dolphin live in the Amazon river Pirarucu are the world’s largest fresh water fish. They can grow to 10 feet and weigh 250 pounds. It eats fruits from overhanging trees by springing out of the water

The stars are arranged in the constellations that were visible in the night sky on Nov 15, 1889 the day Brazil became independent from Portugal. Brazil’s motto, Order and Progress is written across the circle
