1 Carrying Capacity Ecosystems have carrying capacities, which are limits to the numbers of organisms and populations they can support These limits can result from such factors as: -food, space, and water -availability of living resources -availability of nonliving resources -predation -competition -disease

2 Carrying Capacity -organisms would have the ability to produce populations of great size if it were not for the fact that environments and resources are limited -this fundamental tension affects the abundance (number of individuals) of species in any given ecosystem
