2
What is a motion transformation system?
It is a system that turns one type of motion into another. Most of the time, there devices transform a rotational motion into a translation motion, or vice versa.

Examples of motion transformation systems
Rack and pinion Cam and follower Connecting rod and crank Examples of motion transformation systems
4
Rack and pinions It is made up of a toothed wheel (pinion) and a straight toothed rod (rack). When the pinion is rotated, it moves the rack because the teeth of the two parts fit into each other.
5
Example of rack and pinion
6
Cam and follower Transform a rotational motion into a bidirectional translational motion. A cam is a part that is oval- shaped, or that rotates off- centre.
7
Example of cam and follower
8
Connecting rod and crank
The crank is the part that rotates, while the connecting rod is a bar or stem attached to the crank.
