Data drives your decision making To make data useable, it must be streamlined (NEA 360) Data needs to be triangulated From bottom up (Building Reps) From top down (District) Need clean version of the database Yearly drops vs. termination Yearly update of address, location,

3 Do you know who your members are?
Do all of the numbers match up? What is the make up of your membership? Who drops and how many times they dropped? Why they drop How do you stop the bleeding? Do you follow up? Who is looking and acting on the data (and how often)?

5 The Danger of a single Story
First impressions can be good or bad, (stereotypes). We need to identify the negative impressions people may have: Politics Cost Any negative comments in the faculty room, by college professors, etc… Never considered it (no one ever invited them) “Show a people as one thing, as only one thing over and over again and that is what they become.”

6 Start with the why Why are you a member of UEA?
Why are you a member of UEA? Why are you a leader in UEA?

7 “Why” is connected to emotion.
Why Does “Why” Work? The limbic brain controls decisions and emotions. “Why” is connected to emotion.

8 Talking to previous members
Tell your story and identify their story (build a relationship). Your relationship determines your level of influence. Maintain open contact. Be personable and approachable. Put members to work. Remind non-members what UEA is doing for them or what UEA has to offer. Respect differing opinions.
