The Function and Environmental issues:
Ensures the the expected value to the consumer Protects against misbranding/labelling of drugs Safety of additives needs to be ensured by FDA The law provided for three kinds of food standards: 1) standards of identity, so what the food is 2) standards of quality, so what makes up the food 3) standards regulating the fill of container, for example sealed containers Protects human health and safety Sources:

Who is in charge: Congress passed these laws in 1938
The FDA was put in charge of maintaining these laws Regulators had the discretionary authority to reset standards ‘whenever in the judgment of the Secretary such action will promote honesty and fair dealing in the interests of consumers’ Sources:
