Giuseppa Arcimboldo Born in Italy in 1527
Name pronounced: Gee-she-you-pay Ar-cheem-bowl-doh Famous during his life Rich people paid him lots of money to paint their pictures. His work was very modern for his day. His art is on display in the Louvre in France. (A famous Art Gallery)

Unusual Portraits A Portrait is a picture of a person.
He painted imaginary portrait heads made entirely of objects such as fruit, vegetables, flowers and books. He painted some portraits called “Seasons” named after the seasons of the year (Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring) Do you think this picture is “Summer” or “Winter”? Why?

Your turn – Let’s make a face!
Write your name on your paper plate. Use your pencil to draw eyes, a nose and mouth on your plate. Fill the nose, mouth and eyes with glue – you will use a paint brush to put on the glue. Place beans, pasta and rice on the glue to make your face. Once you are done with the eyes, nose and mouth, then fill the other areas of the face with glue and add more pasta and rice to finish your face. Glue a Popsicle stick on the back and let it dry!
