1 LIMITED GOVERNMENT Even the people who make the laws have to obey them. Constitutions, statements of rights, or other laws set limits on how much power government officials have so they cannot take advantage of the people.

2 REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY
Government of the people, for the people. People have a say in what laws are created. The people vote for representatives to represent them in government.

3 UNITED STATES

4 CONSTITUTIONAL MONARCHY
House of Parliament Has King/Queen and a Parliament. King/Queen do not make laws or tell people what they can or can’t do. Prime Minister and Parliament run the government.

5 GREAT BRITAIN

6 UNLIMITED GOVERNMENT Power belongs to the ruler or rulers. No rules or laws exist to limit what the ruler can or cannot do.

7 DICTATORSHIP Hitler One person has all the power in the government and dictates what people can and can’t do.

8 ABSOLUTE MONARCHY Kings & Queens have all the power and tell people what they can and can’t do.

9 A nation or state in which the clergy exercise political power and in which religious law is dominant over civil law. Iran led by the Ayatollah Khomeini was a theocracy under the Islamic clergy. (See Islam.) Click here

14 PARLIAMENTARY DEMOCRACY
Voters elect representatives to a lawmaking body called Parliament. These representatives then choose an official called the PRIME MINISTER to head the government. A Governor-General carries out most of the government’s ceremonial duties.
