2 Site and Situation Factors: Context #1, the more general geographic context
Site – the characteristics of the geographic location - climate, topography, vegetation, availability of water, soil quality, minerals, wildlife, etc. Favorable site factors can lead to the development of major cities (ex. NYC). Unfavorable site factors can make life challenging (ex. Bhutan). Situation -  location of a place relative to its surroundings and other places. Factors in an area's situation include the accessibility to the location, the extent of a place's connections with another, and how close an area may be to raw materials if they are not located specifically on the site.

3 Site and Situation: Context #2, the context associated with industrial locations and production costs (and often associated with Alfred Weber Least Cost Theory) Site - costs of land, labor and capital at a geographic location Situation – transportation related costs; industrial location in relation to inputs (ex. raw materials, unfinished products) and outputs (the finished goods for consumers or retailers)
