Courts resolve two kinds of legal conflicts:
civil and criminal

What is a civil case? In a civil case, a court settles a disagreement between two parties to recover damages or receive compensation.

What is the procedure for a civil case?
The plaintiff files a complaint to recover damages or receive compensation. Case can be heard by judge or jury. Case can be appealed to the Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court.

What is a plaintiff? The party who initiates a lawsuit before a court.

What is a defendant? The party who is required to answer the complaint of a plaintiff in a civil lawsuit.

What are damages? Refers to the money paid or awarded to a plaintiff following their successful claim in a civil action.

What is an appeal? One's intention to take the matter to the next higher court with jurisdiction over the matter.
