5. 1983: 6th Grade: the reckoning

This is the year after I moved to America, and kids were so brutal about my hair, my freckles, my teeth, my accent; me. So, I decided that instead of letting them hurt me, I would “get mean”.

6. 1985: 8th grade: lost in style. No clue.
Prince’s “Raspberry Berry” was the jam. He had no boundaries, and let us know that we didn’t need to fit into a set of criteria to be original.

7. 1987 10th Grade: The year of the concerts
This is the year that I discovered that music really could save your life. These bands were my lifeblood, and it seemed, the only people in the world who could understand me.
