August 27 DCC closes one week after Fall 05 begins with record 17,000 students.
August 28, Katrina hits NO.
August 29, levees break in greater NO
NO communities were without phone, power and services for over two months
Delgado students, faculty and staff were relocated all over the country.

Mandatory evacuation lifted in mid-October.
Delgado Northshore’s Slidell Learning Center was inundated with 8 feet of flood waters
City Park campus which served 11,000 students had 6-8 feet of water and 60% of facilities damaged.
Mold was a major problem due to lack of air conditioning.

14. Delgado’s Virtual Fall Semester
By September 5, Delgado had server space at Baton Rouge Community College.
The college’s system was rescued from City Park.
DCC provided a virtual fall semester with over 2,500 students.
DCC provided 5,281 course offerings.

Former Delgado ESL professor moves to Northern Virginia CC
He calls home after Katrina and finds out about the challenge to move courses online.
Louisiana Board of Regents and Virginia Community College System are both MERLOT partners.
He suggests online courses with MERLOT learning materials.
