World Trade Organization (WTO) Multigovernmental organization which regulates international trade Helps with negotiations and settles disputes between countries International Monetary Fund (IMF) International organization that oversees and stabilizes the exchange of money between nations Can provide aid to developing countries that need it to help support economic development

North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)
Canada, The United States, and Mexico Eliminates trade barriers and tariffs between these three countries in order to encourage free trade Dominican Republic–Central America Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA-DR) Similar to NAFTA (eliminates trade barriers) First free trade agreement between the United States and a small group of developing countries (Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua)

European Union (EU) 27 European Countries once Britain leaves the union (commonly called “Brexit”) Creates a single standardized market and currency (the euro) to ensure free flow of trade between members (as if they were one giant country) Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Lowers tariffs and trade barriers between its members Aims to promote economic growth, competitiveness, and standards of living U.S. withdrew on Jan 23rd, 2017

Globalization has provided opportunities for countries to work together to protect human rights, create new opportunities, help solve problems such as poverty and disease, and improve standards of living Examples: more economic activity, new job opportunities, rising wages

NGO: Nongovernmental Organization Some international NGOs have formed to help protect human rights and provide services to those in need Example: International Red Cross and Amnesty International are NGOs that work to improve the welfare and protect the rights of people around the world
