The American Dream thus presents a view of American society that ignores problems like systemic racism, misogyny, xenophobia, and income inequality. It also presumes a myth of class equality. The country was also in the midst of an economic boom, which fueled the belief that anyone could “strike it rich” on Wall Street.

Stock Market Crash The stock market crash was the beginning of the Great Depression. The Great Depression began when the stock market crash began on Black Thursday on October, 24, 1929 when 16 million shares of stocks were quickly sold by investors who lost faith in the American Economy. This was known as the worst economic crash in history as it led to many farmers losing their land and homes and even going hungry. Families left their homes in a desperate attempt to find work. Factories closed, mills and mines were abandoned.
