Emergency Call number support
Month Year doc.: IEEE yy/xxxxr0 November 2006 Emergency Call number support Date: Authors: Notice: This document has been prepared to assist IEEE It is offered as a basis for discussion and is not binding on the contributing individual(s) or organization(s). The material in this document is subject to change in form and content after further study. The contributor(s) reserve(s) the right to add, amend or withdraw material contained herein. Release: The contributor grants a free, irrevocable license to the IEEE to incorporate material contained in this contribution, and any modifications thereof, in the creation of an IEEE Standards publication; to copyright in the IEEE’s name any IEEE Standards publication even though it may include portions of this contribution; and at the IEEE’s sole discretion to permit others to reproduce in whole or in part the resulting IEEE Standards publication. The contributor also acknowledges and accepts that this contribution may be made public by IEEE Patent Policy and Procedures: The contributor is familiar with the IEEE 802 Patent Policy and Procedures < ieee802.org/guides/bylaws/sb-bylaws.pdf>, including the statement "IEEE standards may include the known use of patent(s), including patent applications, provided the IEEE receives assurance from the patent holder or applicant with respect to patents essential for compliance with both mandatory and optional portions of the standard." Early disclosure to the Working Group of patent information that might be relevant to the standard is essential to reduce the possibility for delays in the development process and increase the likelihood that the draft publication will be approved for publication. Please notify the Chair as early as possible, in written or electronic form, if patented technology (or technology under patent application) might be incorporated into a draft standard being developed within the IEEE Working Group. If you have questions, contact the IEEE Patent Committee Administrator at Donghee Shim et al, LG Electronics, Inc. John Doe, Some Company

Month Year doc.: IEEE yy/xxxxr0 November 2006 Abstract This proposal describes the emergency call number download capability in the Visited SSPN for a STA to make an appropriate emergency call with the downloaded number. No change on currently defined architectures and frames for emergency call support is required. At the end of the presentation, there will be a motion to determine next steps. Donghee Shim et al, LG Electronics, Inc. John Doe, Some Company

Month Year doc.: IEEE yy/xxxxr0 November 2006 Overview Current working assumption for emergency call is emergency call will be settled in the Visited Network and routed to correct PSAP in the Visited Network. STA should be able to detect an emergency call had been established – e.g. by detecting emergency call numbers (in case of IMS emergency call, that would be emergency services TEL URI or SIP URI) or by the special user interface (e.g. designated button or icon in the STA for emergency services) to make an emergency call in Visited Network Otherwise, the STA have to send emergency call request to the Home Network in IMS emergency call or every local emergency number for every Visited Network should be stored in a STA. Based on these discussions, it is recommended to define a capability to provision a STA with local emergency numbers of Visited SSPN Put local emergency call number in Beacon Put local emergency call number in Probe Response Put local emergency call number in Association Response Donghee Shim et al, LG Electronics, Inc. 4 Emergency Call Support in Visited SSPN

November 2006 Discussion To support emergency call in the Visited SSPN, the local emergency call numbers in the Visited SSPN should be available before a STA makes an emergency call This means that WLAN Access Network should provide the local emergency call numbers in every SSPN for every possible roaming STA user Local emergency call number download is already supported in 3GPP GSM/GPRS/WCDMA and IMS Emergency call, however, there is no support in WLAN and I-WLAN scenarios yet Donghee Shim et al, LG Electronics, Inc.

November 2006 Proposal Local emergency call numbers shall be downloaded in the Beacon, Probe Response and Association Response frame Put local emergency call numbers in Beacon Put local emergency call numbers in Probe Response Put local emergency call numbers in Association Response Donghee Shim et al, LG Electronics, Inc.
