1 Unit 6: Critical Approaches to Creative Media Products
LO1: Understand how media producers define audiences for their products. LO2: Understand how media producers create products for specific audiences.

2 Timetable You will be delivering a presentation to Media staff on Thursday 5th May. The PowerPoint/Prezi you produce and your physical presentation will sign off unit 2 lo 4-5

4 Learning Outcome 1 Understand how media producers define audiences for their products
You are demonstrating your understanding through practical application, by adopting the role of a media producer and defining the audience for your own product.

5 Learning Outcome 1: Pass
Gather information about your audience and construct and audience profile. Methods and Audience Case Study will be basic.

6 Learning Outcome 1: Merit
Use major systems of audience categorisation (e.g. socio-economic, life style, psychographics) to define your audience. Produce a detailed Audience Case Study.

7 Learning Outcome 1: Distinction
Use research methods and audience categorisation effectively to gather substantial information about an audience and construct a substantial profile of that audience. Explain the purpose of your audience profile and critically evaluate the different research methods.

8 Learning Outcome 2: Rationale
How will your product be constructed to suit your target audience? How has your research influenced your film’s content, narrative, codes and conventions? How will your idea appeal to audiences?

9 Step 1 Use qualitative, quantitative, primary and secondary research methods to define your audience and their feedback on your project. BARB Questionnaires/surveys/focus groups Social Media Websites/articles/videos

10 Step 2 Use this data to compose an audience profile

11 Step 3 Use this rationale to outline how you intend to target your audience. How will your product be constructed to suit your target audience? How has your research influenced your film’s content, narrative, codes and conventions? How will your idea appeal to audiences?
