2 We would like you to think about times when you feel most free.
First, listen to this group poem which was created by poet Dean Atta’s First Story Group at Hampstead School in London

3 Step 1: Word Race You have 5 pieces of paper in front of you.
On each one, write a different word that reminds you of freedom. Don’t think too hard. Just write whatever comes into your head Were there any words that surprised you that you came up with? In the next activity, we are going to share them as a group…

4 Step 2: Discussion Lay your words out in front of you so you can see them. Taking turns in the group, share one word at at time. Listen carefully to each word that is shared, if anyone else says a word you have before it is your turn, put that paper face down on the table. If you share a word no one has said yet, keep it face up. Keep going around the table until all the words are shared. Put all the unique words in the centre of the table to create a word cloud. Pick your favourite word on the table.

5 Step 3: Free Write We are now going to try some writing.
Start with the sentence "I feel most free when..." and then carry on writing… Try not to put down your pen until you are told to stop. Trust your mind and imagination! Listen to the prompts from your teacher…

6 Prompts… Where are you when you feel free? Who is there with you?
How do you feel? Can you use your imagination and add detail from the senses? What does your freedom taste like? What does your freedom smell like? What does your freedom sound like? What would your freedom feel like to the touch?
