Roosevelt called for European leaders to meet and resolve conflict peacefully Germany, Italy, Britain, and France met at Munich, Germany in 1938

Signed a pact giving Germany control of the Sudetenland (Czechoslovakian territory) European leaders feel Hitler will stop expanding his territory

7 Appeasement =Giving in to demands in an attempt to avoid a larger conflict General fear of Hitler – avoid conflict Some worried appeasement would only encourage Hitler to continue Some ethnic Germans cheer the Nazis entering into the Sudetenland

Believed appeasement would give Britain enough time to rearm its military Made Hitler sign a treaty between Great Britain and Germany in 1938 Neville Chamberlain lands back in Great Britain with signed paper from Hitler ensuring the pact after Sudentland is given to Hitler
