YEAR 5/6 PGL TRIP PGL Little Canada PARENT INFORMATION MEETING 13th September 2018

Welcome and thank you for coming, we hope that you find this meeting useful.
The aim of this meeting is to share with you more information about our time away, ensuring your child gets the most out of the trip and that you feel reassured about their week away from home.

PGL Adventure Centres The school had visited this site on several trips and the facilities are brilliant. PGL have been providing adventure holidays to children since 1957. Previous groups thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

PGL Little Canada Little Canada is one of PGL's best loved centres, located on the beautiful Isle of Wight. With its woodland log cabins on the banks of Wootton Creek, it’s easy to see how Little Canada adventure centre got its name – it is an amazing setting.

ACCOMMODATION Accommodation is in lodges, with bedrooms that sleep up to six people. There are mattresses on all bunk beds with a bottom sheet. The children MUST bring their own sleeping bag and pillow as these WILL NOT be provided. Each bedroom has good washing and toilet facilities. Single gender accommodation groups will be organised. Members of staff sleep in separate rooms within each of the lodges.

STAFFING AND GROUPS Mrs Salter, Mrs Ager, Mr Burrell, Mr Gorton and Mrs Leadbetter-Simms will be accompanying the children. Children will be organised into working groups of 10 for activities and will have a member of staff as a group leader.

Sample Itinerary Wake up Breakfast (English or Continental, cereal, toast and drinks) First activity session Second activity session Lunch Third activity session Fourth activity session course evening meal Evening entertainment. PGL leaders assist us until Throughout the night there will always be a senior PGL staff member on call and there are regular patrols.

MEALS Children will be provided with all meals during their stay at PGL. Meals will take place at the Dining Hall and children will be given a range of choices. Children who have specific dietary needs are well catered for. Children will be expected to help clear away after they have eaten and will be responsible for keeping the dining area clean and tidy.

ACTIVITIES Children will be given the opportunity to participate in a wide range of Outdoor Adventurous Activities. These can include abseiling, giant swing, trapeze, problem solving and quad biking. Fully qualified and trained staff will lead each activity and groups will always be accompanied by members of teaching staff.

Safety Children will be provided with all safety equipment necessary for all activities and there is a safety talk at the start of each session. Children are told how to use the equipment before they start the activity and centre leaders check it is fastened, fits etc. The site is very safe and secure. There is always a member of PGL staff on call over night.

First Aid & Medicines Qualified First Aiders are always available at the centre and Mrs Ager is our own fully trained first aider. First aid kits are taken to activities. We, along with PGL staff, control the risks to avoid any injuries / accidents. Please ensure we have all medical forms in and all required medication – we will keep a record of any medication administered to your child.

KIT LIST Children will need to bring several sets of old clothes. PLEASE write your child’s name on all items. Please DO NOT send items of value including mobile phones, IPADs and handheld games as we cannot be responsible for security of these belongings. It is also a great opportunity for the children to be gadget free for the week! Disposable cameras only please.

Communication Children are not allowed to bring mobile phones. There will be contact with the school everyday – keep an eye on the school Twitter account for updates. Please be assured that if we feel that you should be contacted we would organise this.
