1 Introduce self 101 1

2 Calibration – Why it’s important
Explain how calibration allows you to define the projection area – works between 11 x 17 in (28 x 43 cm) 108 x 60 in’ (274 x 152) Explain how rotating the Edge 90 degrees for top of bottom placement makes interactive dimensions less wide and more tall Show calibration access – from Edge, from Tool Palette, from task bars - and remember to highlight “on release”

3 eBeam Education Suite eBeam Home
Create shortcuts to most commonly used items eBeam Tool Palette Interact with any file or application eBeam Scrapbook Intuitive writing capabilities Blank canvas to create lessons and organize content Gallery with curriculum resources Edit, save and distribute in multiple formats Point out tool palette: Home lets you create quick links to apps, files, folders, URLS Tool Palette Only need one palette – it’s customizable (don’t have multiple floating windows, tools are available when you need them) tools look familiar, palette moves around-no reaching, hide/show, intuitive. Scrapbook – our software; open app to create lessons, collect media, provide links to content. Multi-button functionality, lets you use ANY app – circle tip, right click, and hide/show palette buttons on stylus. Point to a few tools on the palette whose function is obvious (pen, eraser, camera). Show how easy it is for kids to use – click on Stylus for Video link. Note: in Scrapbook version, this will take you to new page and play within Scrapbook page.

4 eBeam Home Show how to add, delete, rename, hide/show, close
Highlight Tutorials and follow link

5 Let’s go through the Tool Palette
Things to show: Outside Scrapbook Open internet browser (if no access to internet, go to a PowerPoint, Word, or Excel file – these are provided for you) Describe how tool palette changes look and tools depending on the active application. Show this by toggling back and forth between apps Use pen tool, highlighter – explain how screen freeze when annotating – show saving and not saving 3 o’clock: keyboard icon. Use on screen keyboard to go to Follow some links on the site Show camera/snapshot tool: Switch to Screen Capture tool and “capture” the large image on the Education Tab and bring it back into Scrapbook (or if using an Office file, capture a section of what you typed in and bring into Scrapbook). In Scrapbook Tool palette: start at 12 o’clock with pen tool. Make new page Show how to change colors and line width and customize colors. Difference between highlighter and pen – great to have some text to circle (pen) draw over (highlighter).. Tool palette: go to 4 o’clock show Eraser (deleting up on toolbar and erase by tool palette). After erasing, write a multi-step math problem on the board. Show “Playback feature.” Also show “Coversheet” and “Spotlight if using a windows machine or make a box and show how to do “send to back/bring to front” to cover up an area.

6 What is Scrapbook? Stress the eBeam advantage over PowerPoint
eBeam Education Suite has tools for every app and is based in dynamically interacting with content not just presenting it. Regular computer application - Menus have what you expect, Save (show formats), Print, Open files

7 Built in Curriculum Resources
Gallery Includes Interactive Tools (Flash) Content partners and links Tips and Tricks provided Put in places to go in gallery and what to show Curriculum tools developed by Luidia, based on requests from users. In Scrapbook show Gallery icon – show how it toggles Gallery from open and accessible to closed. Indicate how the Gallery is sorted into folders just as our competitors do. Explain how there are familiar versions of standard classroom tools. Calendars, graphs and charts, classroom furniture, math manipulatives, writing templates, flash tools. Show how to drag and drop items onto a page, add them as background or floating object, and how to import items into Gallery (folder provided). Show links of the integration of Britannica, “Flickr” and “Web Resources” and how they are included with the software.

8 eBeam Gallery Showing Gallery contents in demos:
Go to the “Flash tools” folder and pull in “dice.swf.” Go into the Classroom Tools -> Graphic Organizer and pull in a “Three Column Chart” as a background. Go into the Mathematics or History and Social Studies folder and find the Currency Folder. Drag a dollar, quarter and nickel into the “Favorites” Folder – this is good to do to show our version of “cloning.” Starting with nickels, use the “Roll One Die” option and depending on the # rolled, pull that number of nickels from the “Favorites” Folder into the far right column- once you get to an equivalent of 25 cents, show how to drag around items and right click to delete and then put a quarter in the place of the five nickels. Now roll for quarters until you get a dollars worth. Do your own variations of this as a learning game. Some similar exercises: Make a new page and add the Food Pyramid to a page as a background. Add food as objects. Show how to make the page a template and explain how you can save lessons. or Make a new page, go to the “Science” Folder and locate Physics. Drag in the simple machines. Double click on one of the images to show how items can be rotated, resized, cropped, and how these things can be un-done . Put the see-saw and the fulcrum together, show how they can be grouped. Go to “flickr” and pull up “keyboard” icon on tool palette . Type in “Ancient Greece” and highlight the images to choose from. Drag an icon into gallery. (If no internet connection; explain how it works in theory).

9 External Resources and Content Partners
Encyclopædia Britannica Creative Commons Flickr Images eBeam Web Resources May need to concept of “Creative Commons” Explain how filters work – bottom line, any filers the school has will trump flickr searches or ability to launch flickr can be used to prepare lessons and content as well as on the fly Do flickr search on Ancient Greece - show results and drag in items as both backgrounds and floating objects, show how to drag a flickr item from gallery to favorites for later use

10 Web Resources These require online access and can be sorted and searched. Luidia’s criteria was to link to sites that work well for whole class instruction and sites that are aligned with national and state standards – you can use the search functionality and put in “Standards” to highlight this. Follow the link from the Gallery to Web Resources – These are much more geared to North American English use, but we have had positive feedback internationally about many of the sites. Show how you can select an age range, subject and type of activity or do a search. Show/do the activity with participants. Some good ones to show to include: How to use “search” and “sort” to get to these For Language Arts go to For Math go to or – mention using eBeam with digital materials form “Everyday Math” For History go to or For Science go to or For Mixed Subjects with great interactive simulations go to

11 Accessed from the Desktop Tools Palette
Integration with Additional Applications Annotate and navigate in PowerPoint and Keynote slideshows Use Print to Scrapbook (Win) and Print to PDF (Mac) to bring ANY file into Scrapbook This is a good slide to use as needed: Also show how to drag and drop Word and Excel files in to Scrapbook on Windows and how “Save as” pdf on Mac can lets oyu bring in multi-page files from any app into Scrapbook as background Show how to drag and drop PDFs (Mac) or open PDF and “Print to eBeam Imagewriter” file to include in Scrapbook (Windows). Accessed from the Desktop Tools Palette

12 Document Camera Integration
On windows, you can select your preferred camera from drop down menu On Mac, you can go to System Preferences and select Use any document camera or video device with Web Cam technology to bring real-life 2 and 3 D content into your digital presentations or lessons.

13 Inscribe Tablet Integration
Absolute, not relative surface area, maps to computer screen Can lift sleeve to trace items Inscribe dongle support 50 users Do need to install driver for Tablet – available on website under support, Inscribe Page up and down works with all apps Important for ability to use dual input. Make sure ALL eBeam software is not running. Make sure driver for Inscribe Tablet is loaded on computer Make sure all steps are followed to set up Tablet and pair to computer – these are on the Luidia website Step 1 – put dongle in available USB port Step 2 – turn on tablet – verify that it has been paired Step 3 – launch eBeam Tool Palette (or Scrapbook or Home) – Note: if Edge is not connected to computer you will get a screen that asks oyu to connect or locate – click “Cancel” Step 4 – try using stylus as mouse on Inscribe Step 5 – see if the shortcut strip items are working properly – click button, second from right, and see if you can get to a full page in Scrapbook. Press it again and see if you go back to a smaller page size Step 6 – confirm that you can control the tool palette color, line thickness, pen and highlighter from Inscribe Step 7 – see if in multi-page docs you can use page up page down buttons If you have an eBeam receiver attached, the button on the far right will toggle between Inscribe having full mouse control and Inscribe only being able to work on the active Scrapbook page. When Inscribe is on active Scrapbook page, the person using Interactive Stylus at board is able to maintain full control of desktop and also to have pen down simultaneous to person using Inscribe. Work with eBeam Education software, access tools from shortcut strip and have two users work simultaneously on an eBeam Scrapbook page at once.
