Form Before you read on: Split your piece of paper into 8 boxes.
In each box, add a different idea of what we could look at for the form of A Streetcar Named Desire. (Go onto the back if you need more boxes!)

Talking about form… Using this extract from when Blanche tells Mitch about Allan, what could we say about Williams’ use of form? By coming suddenly into a room that I thought was empty--which wasn't empty, but had two people in it... the boy I had married and an older man who had been his friend for years.... [A locomotive is heard approaching outside. She claps her hands to her ears and crouches over. The headlight of the locomotive glares into the room as it thunders past. As the noise recedes she straightens slowly and continues speaking.]

Form – Literary Genre Read through the text on the form of Streetcar and how it can fit into a range of literary genres. Highlight any key information. Once you have finished, summarise the genre you think it bets fits into and why. Remember, different views are important in the exam for AO5.
