Module 0.1 Participants introduction / Preliminary stocktaking Trainer: [Name]
Note to trainer: During the NAP country-level training, the participants have the opportunity to present how their work is already related to adaptation to climate change or development policy, i.e. the policy context for adaptation. This serves a dual purpose: to inform other participants about your country’s adaptation situation, and to provide the basis for an in-depth analysis on how the NAP process can be carried further. The presentations will take place on the first day. To guide your presentations please refer to the questions in the template below. In developing your presentation please consider the following: We will build groups with participants from the same sector / working on similar topics. The time limit for the groups presentation is a maximum of 15 minutes Be concise – choose information that is most relevant. Not all of the questions below have to be answered. Participants from other organisations may not be familiar with your work. Please make sure that it can be understood without much background information. It is not required to use a power point presentation. Instead, your group will use cards, pinboards and flipcharts. Content Introduction What sector are you working in? In which institution / organization are you working? What is your position there? Sectoral policy and initiatives on adaptation to climate change If climate change adaptation is already being integrated into sectoral planning or initiatives are already being implemented: What are reference documents and what are the objectives of these policies/strategies? How does the process of developing / integrating climate change adaptation into sectoral planning look like? E.g. are workshops being held, studies commissioned or other activities been undertaken? How is the development process organised and by whom? What institution (e.g. a particular ministry) has the mandate to develop the sectoral adaptation policy? Which other governmental institutions and which stakeholders (academia, civil society etc.) are involved? Do coordination mechanisms among actors at (sub-)national level exist? Have vulnerability assessment already been implemented for your sector/within the scope of your work? If so, what was the scope and how have the results been used for planning exercises? Expectations towards the NAP country-level training (What do you expect to learn? What aspects/topics are particularly important to you? What do you wish to achieve by attending this training?) If climate change adaptation is not yet integrated into sectoral planning or adaptation initiatives are just starting: Is there political will to integrate it and what would be a good starting point to do so? Does your organization have difficulty understanding climate change adaptation and if yes, in what respect? How could a process of developing / integrating climate change adaptation into sectoral planning look like? Which government and non-government institutions and stakeholders should be involved? How could it be organised effectively? Do you have access to information about the impacts of climate change? What barriers or challenges could arise in developing adaptation plans/policies? Expectations towards the NAP country-level training (what do you expect to learn? What do you wish to learn?) Additional aspects Is there anything else of relevance that you want to mention?
2
What can you expect to learn from this session?
Get to know the other participants Get introduced to the different aspects of how participants already work on climate change adaptation and / or related issues Express your expectations towards the training List two to four learning objectives of the module. What would you like each participant to know and be able to do when he/she has completed the module? Make the participants clearly understand the intended learning outcome and the relevance of the topic.
3
Version 1: Introduction to the work of the individual participant
Take a pen and four cards You have 15 minutes to explain to your neighbor and write on cards: Name Organisation and position Do you already work on climate change adaptation and / or related issues? If yes, in what way? Expectations on the NAP country-level training (what do you expect to learn?) Write clearly and in big font Then, your neighbour will present you and you will present your neighbour (2 minutes each) We will attach the cards on boards, visibly throughout the training With the last question, the trainer could also ask: What aspects/topics are particularly important to you? What do you wish to achieve by attending this training?
4
Detailed version As preparation for this training you have received a template with questions Build groups from the same sector / working on similar topics As a group you have 30 minutes to prepare a presentation with the information you prepared with the help of the template Use cards, boards or flipcharts, write clearly and in big font The group will present the sector together Each group has 15 minutes for its presentation We will show the presentations visibly throughout the training
