Professional Learning Community Teacher Presentation Goal
This year, Mrs. Arland and I decided to tackle our technology goal! Our beginning goal was small. We wanted each student to know how to log in to a computer using their username and password. Our reason for setting this goal was to help our students gain independence and understanding by the time they reach third grade, when they will be required to use computers to complete their state testing.

Professional Learning Community Teacher Presentation Challenges
This is the first time some of our students have experienced being on a computer. Some students have learning disabilities that require them to need more assistance and therefore they get frustrated quickly. Last names can be long and tricky, making them hard to spell at this age. Students at this age like to push buttons rather than wait for help so we are working on patience and waiting your turn for adult help.

Success Stories Most students were able to log in using their username and password cards successfully and independently by November. Students were able to choose different learning activities after they became familiar with the programs that were taught. Students were able to log out and shut down when they were finished with their program. We have discovered some really fun coding programs for our age group, and this is a skill that our new Next Gen Science Standards are going to require.

In conclusion… We had nineteen students and three adults during each technology session. We met every Wednesday and Friday from 2:00-2:30. So students are receiving 1 hour of technology per week. We found this to be successful and plan to continue on our journey with technology next year. We plan to add more coding activities in the computer lab as well as more classroom iPad time. Students were more enthusiastic about the coding programs than Moby Max. We felt that Moby Max, in general, was not a good fit for our grade levels.
