1 The LORD My Rock Psalm 144

2 Blessed be the LORD, MY Rock (1-8)
My Rock – God, David’s foundation and refuge Who trains my hands for war, fingers for battle David fought many battles He acknowledges the hand of God, his “trainer”

3 Blessed be the LORD, MY Rock (1-8)
God, David’s foundation and refuge We are at war too (Ephesians 6:10-18). We must “train” – 2 Corinthians 10:4-5, Ephesians 6:17, Hebrews 4:12 Faith, is our victory – 1 John 5:4, 1 Corinthians 15:57

4 Blessed be the LORD, MY Rock (1-8)
Who is God? (vs. 2) My lovingkindness –patient and merciful My fortress – protection His high tower – scout, guide Deliverer – savior His shield – personal protection His refuge – personal shelter He subdues David appreciates and depends upon Him

5 Blessed be the LORD, MY Rock (1-8)
A humble question (vs. 3-4) LORD, what is man that you take knowledge of Him? (Psalm 8:4-5) “Man is like a breath, his days a passing shadow” James 4: Peter 1:24, James 1:10 WHY did He take notice of us? Ephesians 2:3-4

6 Blessed be the LORD, MY Rock (1-8)
A prayer for deliverance (vs. 5-8) Come down from heaven and touch the mountains (cf. Exodus 19:16- 18, 20:18-19) – instill fear in the enemy as at Mt. Sinai Rescue and deliver (vs. 7)

7 Blessed be the LORD, MY Rock (1-8)
A prayer for deliverance (vs. 5-8) From foreigners – those not belonging to the LORD They speak lying words, falsehood Do we have “foreigners”? Our citizenship? (Philippians 3:20, Ephesians 2:19) Sojourners – 1 Peter 2:11, Hebrews 13:13-14

8 Blessed be the LORD, MY Rock (1-8)
A prayer for deliverance (vs. 5-8) Do we have foreigners? How often do His enemies speak blasphemies? Matthew 5:11-12, 1 Peter 4:3-5 Our “foreigners” may include friends, family, neighbors, etc. BEWARE! Don’t let them succeed!

9 I will sing a new song (9-15)
David was a psalmist. A musician from youth. He even invented instruments (Amos 6:5) On a harp of ten strings praising Him (vs. 9) NOTE: While David used instruments, this is NOT authority for us to use them (Ephesians 5:19, Colossians 3:16, 1 Corinthians 14:15, etc.)

10 I will sing a new song (9-15)
A savior of kings, including David himself (vs. 10) David describing himself (cf. 2 Samuel 7:26, Psalm 18:50) Perhaps here, David introduces a “new song” (vs )

11 I will sing a new song (9-15)
A song of David (vs ) Rescue me and deliver me from the hand of foreigners (cf. vs. 8) David’s perfect vision(vs ) - Descriptive of a utopian society. - David never realized it

12 I will sing a new song (9-15)
A song of David (vs ) We have never seen such a picture either. Why? Because we do not fear God, nor submit to His will! Instead, man villainizes Him and anyone who stands by His standards. Even among God’s people there is division and disharmony!

13 I will sing a new song (9-15)
David’s conclusion (vs. 15) “Happy are the people who are in such a state; Happy are the people whose God is the LORD!”

14 Is He your lord?
