Spin the nail Stem Activity for Students/Teachers
2
Activity Subject: Magnetic field
Aim of the experiment is to demonstrate the force which is under affect of magnetic field of a current
3
Experiment / Activity Materials:
Battery (1.5 V) Nail Magnet Cable
4
Experimental Procedure:
Place the magnet under the nail As you can see in the picture, one end of the cable is bonded to a battery - strap the flat part with your hand. Then attach the tip of the nail to the battery + end and let it rotate freely. Finally, touch the other end of the cable slowly to the magnet. You will see the nail swinging tremendously.

Conclusion The magnetic field lines around a long nail which carries an electric current form concentric circles around the nail. The direction of the magnetic field is perpendicular to the nail and is in the direction the fingers of your right hand would curl if you wrapped them around the wire with your thumb in the direction of the current. Here, the force acts on the current in the magnet. If we think of that small region that flows through the microstructure like a wire, then that little force will act.
