Volunteer Guidelines

2. 6 Reasons that Volunteering is Important (and awesome!)
What type of volunteer work have you done in the past? How did you feel about the work you did?
Which of these six reasons is the most appealing/important to you? Why?
What type of volunteer work would you like to do in the future? Why?

3. Contact Information
Your teacher needs to have a point of contact at the organization where you will complete your volunteer work
Give the volunteer coordinator your teacher’s business card
Bring a business card back for your teacher
Your teacher needs to be able to confirm that you completed your hours

4. Dress Code
Wear your uniform or the uniform provided by the organization you are working for (for example an LIT shirt)
You may also wear another enCompass Academy shirt (for example a senior shirt)
We want you in your enCompass gear if possible. We want the community to know how awesome you are and about all the good work you are doing.

5. Rules You must follow the rules at the organization
Likely rules will include:
Dress code
No cell phones
No eating
No headphones
No inappropriate language
Some organizations may require that you attend an orientation to be trained and to learn their rules

6. Absences
If you have scheduled a time to volunteer and you cannot make it you must contact your volunteer supervisor
Give him/her 24 hours notice in case you need to be replaced
Sickness and emergencies only
Taking advantage or no call no shows can lead to completing more hours or a poor reference

7. Time Sheet You must get your time sheet signed each time you volunteer
You need to fill out the time sheet, and your supervisor should sign it (don’t make him/her fill it out)
You need to complete 30 hours of volunteer work to walk at graduation
I recommend starting early, or volunteering over your breaks

8. Do it right You represent enCompass Academy when you volunteer
That means your behavior reflects on the administration, teachers, and staff at our school. Most importantly it reflects on me, and I raised you all right
If you do not complete your volunteer work to the satisfaction of your supervisor you may have to do more hours
