The ACHA-NCHA National survey coordinated by the American College Health Association (ACHA) Validated instrument based in large part on NCHRBS (CDC), CAS (Harvard),& NCWSV (DOJ) Most comprehensive college health survey currently available♦ Web (conf.) & paper- based (anon.) 332 institutions participated since 2000 Survey details available at NCHRBS= National College Health Risk Behavior Survey; CAS= College Alcohol Study; NCWSV=National College Women Sexual Victimization Study

Why do the NCHA? better understand trends identify emerging problems

Limitations of the NCHA
Generalizability Designed for undergraduates Self-report Psychometric issues – e.g. Measurement of “stress”

Methods CPP NCHA Administered by handing survey out in classes and then collecting them at another class meeting during the Spring Quarter of 2007. Yielded 365 valid surveys for a 35% response rate. Fairly representative of student body. Women were over-represented and Caucasians were under-represented. Slightly more 3rd years than others

CPP NCHA Allergies 41.4% 47% Back Pain 39.6% Sinus Infection 15% 29.3% Depression 11.6% 18.4% 51% of CPP students reported that their health was very good or excellent. 59% NCHA reported very good or excellent.

Only 16.3% of students report getting enough sleep to feel rested 6 or more days per week

Why is exercise and nutrition important?
