Ephesians 5:22-33 22 Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body. 24 But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything. 25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, 26 so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word,
4
27 that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless. 28 So husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; 29 for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, 30 because we are members of His body.
5
31 FOR THIS REASON A MAN SHALL LEAVE HIS FATHER AND MOTHER AND SHALL BE JOINED TO HIS WIFE, AND THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH. 32 This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless, each individual among you also is to love his own wife even as himself, and the wife must see to it that she respects her husband.

Roles in Ministry: Distribution to each
Eph 4:7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ's gift. 1Cor. 12:7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.

Roles in Ministry: Necessity of orderliness
1Co 14:33 for God is not a God of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints. 1Co 14:40 But all things must be done properly and in an orderly manner.

A man can earnestly desire a wife, and yet have no inclination toward a ministry of “giving himself up” for her.

GOD-GIVEN MINISTRY ROLES
HUSBAND Provide WIFE Respond Ephesians 5:22 Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. Col 3:23 Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men,
15
Fulfilling your role in marriage (Response) is your worship gift to God and your ministry gift to your husband.
16
Accepting a proposal of marriage is accepting a call to ministry

GOD-GIVEN MINISTRY ROLES — CARNAL SUBSTITUTE
HUSBAND Provide—Provoke WIFE Respond—React I believe that God created women to be responders. Moderating the tendency to react and instead respond will be your greatest challenge in marriage.

Wife’s Ministry Role: Response
Ministry of Helping Ministry of Respecting Ministry of Submitting Ministry of Adorning
21
Gen 2:18-25 Then the LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him." 19 Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name. 20 The man gave names to all the cattle, and to the birds of the sky, and to every beast of the field, but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him.
22
21 So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. 22 The LORD God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man. 23 The man said, "This is now bone of my bones, And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, Because she was taken out of Man." 24 For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh. 25 And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

God seen a manifest need in man
Genesis 2:18a Then the LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone;…
24
God seen a manifest need in man and created woman to respond to that need.
Gen 2:18 Then the LORD God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him."
25
At it’s core, ministry is about a God-given response to need.
1Co 12:7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 1Co 12:21 And the eye cannot say to the hand, "I have no need of you"; or again the head to the feet, "I have no need of you."
26
1Pe 3:1-6 In the same way, you wives, be submissive to your own husbands so that even if any of them are disobedient to the word, they may be won without a word by the behavior of their wives, 2 as they observe your chaste and respectful behavior. 3 Your adornment must not be merely external—braiding the hair, and wearing gold jewelry, or putting on dresses; 4 but let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the imperishable quality of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in the sight of God.
27
5 For in this way in former times the holy women also, who hoped in God, used to adorn themselves, being submissive to their own husbands; 6 just as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, and you have become her children if you do what is right without being frightened by any fear.
28
1Ti 2:9-15 Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, 10 but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness. 11 A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness.
29
12 But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet. 13 For it was Adam who was first created, and then Eve. 14 And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. 15 But women will be preserved through the bearing of children if they continue in faith and love and sanctity with self-restraint.
30
Tit 2:3-5 Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, 4 so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.
31
1Th 2:13 For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe.
