-ask a measurable question - find out as much as you can -make a prediction about what you think will happen -design a way to answer your question -perform the experiment, make observations & record what happened -look for trends in the data -summarize what happened, and why you think it happened using your background knowledge to support

Scientists also use instruments to carefully gather accurate and detailed observations.

Prediction
A forecast of what will happen in the future based on past experience or evidence
How are they different? A prediction is referring to a future action, an inference can be a conclusion about something that may have happened, or may be true.
