Toward a more equal world: actions from the School of Education, USP 2017 INEI Conference - Cape Town, South Africa Belmira Bueno – Diana Vidal – University of São Paulo, Brazil
2
Affirmative actions developed during the past 4 years
intervention projects in basic education schools located in “favelas”; continuing education for teacher working in prison system; teacher training programs for indigenous teachers; policies to include minorities in our Graduate Program; courses on Gender, Inequality and African and Indigenous Culture in our Undergraduate Curricula; classrooms for low-income students enrolled in a free preparatory course for admission to university, whose classes are taught by undergraduate students.
3
Commitment with social justice and social pedagogy
This is the goal and sense of the iniciatives we are promoting in our term as Dean and Vice-dean with the support of our faculties and staff members. Brazil has its debts to a past of slavery and a present of social inequality. Affirmative actions are compromise not only of politicians, but also of institutions. Taking over our responsibility in this scenario, the School of Education of University of São Paulo has been playing its role toward a fairer society.
4
Two proposals for expanding interchange among INEI and other institutions of education
Creation of an academic online open access journal to debate themes involving experts from all the institutional members. Promotion of Summer Schools in the countries associated to INEI. Instead of fostering research projects, INEI could support young scholars and/or graduate students to attend Summer Schools. We are very open to host one in our Faculty in São Paulo.
