Design a controlled lab or field study that addresses an environmental problem around Kent-Meridian that City of Kent could implement.

3. Environmental Problems in Kent:
Arsenic in Soil:
Arsenic is a toxin (chemical that harms us – poison, pollutants)
Is in the soil at a park
Could enter the water (stream/creek) through the soil
Could harm the Salmon and their habitat
What we do not know – how did the Arsenic get in the soil?
What we can do about it? Remove soil

2. Technology Toxins – Story of Stuff
Designed for Dump
Extraction: Mines to get materials (metals)
Production: Factories put dangerous materials together.
Distribution: have to get there (shipping, trucking)
Consumption: always getting more
Disposal: Toxins in….Toxins out. Landfill or Recycling
How fix: Greener Products, “Innovate”

Did not originate in WA or PNW
Kills off Native species which animals like, so harms animals too.
Creates a wasteland
What can we do about it? Removal invasive plants and grow native plants
