3 MAIN PROJECT OBJECTIVE
“Contribution to improved livelihoods of residents of Bo District through good local governance and effective education service delivery”

4 SPECIFIC PROJECT OBJECTIVES
Increased number of marginalized pupils, especially girl-child are retained in and pass their class and public examinations. Bo District Council’s capacity increasingly demonstrates good governance and effective education service delivery.

5 The Specific Outcomes and their Expected Results are:
Specific Outcome 1: Increased number of marginalized pupils especially girl- child are retained in schools and pass their class and public examinations Expected Result 1.1 Teachers are trained on new model teaching techniques like target setting techniques and education sector supported to enhance quality teaching and learning Expected Result 1.2 Increased access to good quality education by children in need of educational assistance especially the girl child.

Specific Outcome 2: Bo District Council’s capacity increasingly demonstrates good governance and effective education service delivery. Expected Result 2.1 Council staff trained on accountability mechanisms, project and records management skills; Expected Result 2.2 Education service delivery in Bo District is well coordinated

7 Main Target: 30 primary schools and 20 junior secondary schools, 1000 marginalized pupils, 200 teachers and 50 council staff are the direct target

8 Activity 1.1.3 Develop a training plan for teachers
Expected Result 1.1 Teachers are trained on new model teaching techniques like target setting techniques and education sector supported to enhance quality teaching and learning - Activities: Activity Identify the beneficiary primary and secondary schools (schools and teachers) Activity Conduct institutional assessment of the schools and District Education Department. Activity Develop a training plan for teachers Activity Develop a supervision, inspection and monitoring plan for the District Education Office Activity Develop Curriculum target teaching training manual Activity Conduct trainings of content and teaching methods Activity Provide institutional support to schools and District Education Department

9 Activity 1.2.3 Develop school/children performance database
Expected Result 1.2 Increased access to good quality education by children in need of educational assistance especially the girl child – Activities: Activity Identify socially excluded and marginalized children in need of educational assistance Activity Provision and distribution of educational assistance to target beneficiaries Activity Develop school/children performance database Activity Mothers’ clubs established and supported to do Community awareness raising and advocacy in order to break traditional barriers to education Activity Enrolment and retention of children to schools Activity Award of EU prizes to excellent and well performing pupils especially the girl child

Expected Result 2.1 Council staff trained on accountability mechanisms, records and project management skills Activity Conduct institutional and capacity audit of the Bo District Council Activity Develop capacity building plan for Bo District Council and Peoples Development Organization Activity Procurement and provision of institutional support to Bo District Council, PDO and MEST Activity Develop training manuals and reference materials Activity Conduct capacity building and accountability trainings for Bo District Council, PDO and MEST BO Activity Annual training reviews

14 CURRENT ACHEIVEMENTS Recruited all the staff on the project
Set up project steering committee(BoDC, MEST, PCs Rep, Council Education Committee, PDO, Council Devt Committee, Council Project Management committee) Developed and agreed on school selection criteria Selected 30 primary schools and 20 junior secondary schools in 14 out of the 15 chiefdoms Staff induction done Procurement of the computers carried out and delivered Procurement of vehicles and motorbikes is on-going Capacity building of finance staff started Developed the ToR for the baseline survey for the schools and organizational audit Stakeholders orientation happening now
