1 How do forces act vertically on objects?
Vertical Forces How do forces act vertically on objects? Starter: Draw a tennis ball falling and a tennis ball on a table. Label the forces acting on the 2 balls.

2 But how does the table put a force on the balls? :s
There is a reaction force from the table acting on the balls. Are the 2 forces balanced or unbalanced ?

3 Forces in Explosions http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Y14kEY-6fk
Draw an explosion. E.g. a firework Why have you drawn it that way? Why do we get that shape? Gun recoil Explain that when two objects explode apart they both experience a force . Show how the motion of rockets and jet engines is caused by an interaction pair

4 What forces are acting on this cannon
Gun Recoil show how the motion of rockets and jet engines is caused by an interaction pair

5 How does this great hunk of metal float?!

6 Competition Time In pairs make a boat out of metal, that can float on water. Draw a diagram to show the “contact forces” which are interacting. explain that horizontal surfaces exert an upwards force on objects sitting on them – the reaction of a surface

7 Remember: 1kg = 1000g Mass (kg) Weight (N)
Lets Investigate : What is the relationship between mass (in kg) and weight (in N)? Remember: 1kg = 1000g Mass (kg) Weight (N)

8 strength of gravity (N/kg)
Weight(N) = mass(kg) x strength of gravity (N/kg) What is the strength of gravity on Earth? * Remember that a bag of sugar has a mass of 1kg and a weight of 10N *

9 Complete the task in red and then choose one of the other tasks.
ALL: write a revision card and complete the PP questions. Draw and fully label 5 examples of situations where forces are used e.g. a car accelerating, a car moving at a constant speed. Complete the worksheet on resultant forces HIGHER ONLY Extension complete the misconceptions worksheet. (A/ A*) Create a revision poster (for you) about resultant forces. What effect does an overall (resultant) force have on an object?

10 Plenary Past paper Question and revision card
