1 Acting 101

2 Five Keys to Visual Presentation:
Energy Movement Expression Consistency Believability NOTE: Once consistency has been achieved then artistry has a chance.

3 The Audience The audience will always take the path of least resistance and go where the “action” is! This might be physical movement about the stage Body language Changes in facial expression (has to be over done from what is in your head) Vocal production

4 Getting into Character
Thought Facial Expression Attitude in the Body Gestures Dialogue/Singing

5 You as the Character Trust in the character you are playing – you are not yourself on stage, you are that character. If they are brash – you are brash If they are shy – you are shy If they are depressed – you are depressed If they have a complex about the size of their nose – then you have a complex about the size of your nose! You have to be fearless and get into the part – the CHARACTER OWNS YOU

6 How to Retain the Character
Ask yourself “How did it feel?” You can re-create the character if you can answer the question because memory is tied to emotion – the more emotionally involved you are in the character the more powerful the memory tied to the lines and the actions. Also you will not have to work as hard to “force” a characterization and mannerisms because you will become the character you are presenting – the emotion creates the motion
