6. Adding mixed numbers Sample problem: 3 7/12 + 5 8/12
First, add the fractions. 7/12 + 6/12 gives me 13/12.
Because the numerator is larger than the denominator, make this a mixed number. 15/12= 1 1/12
Now, add the remaining whole numbers to your new mixed number. 1 1/ The sum is 9 1/12.
