Approaches to develop performance
Fartlek Training
2
Fartlek Training Also known as varied pace training
This type of training mirrors the movements that I use during my performance During performance I will vary between walking jogging and sprinting By doing this I develop my CRE / speed endurance which will help me stay alert and have energy for my full performance
3
Benefits Very easy to overload training which ensure you don’t reach a plateau Simple to set up which ensure that concentration is fully on the session Mirrors the movements in my performance which means towards the end of the game I still have the energy to sprint/jog when needed Easy to monitor progress – training diary/time/laps Ability to set targets which will encourage you to work harder
4
Limitations Can seem boring which has a negative effect on effort
It doesn’t involve any skills that I use in performance and only focuses on physical fitness It is difficult to count the number of laps I complete which mean I won’t be able to monitor as accurately It doesn’t develop your energy to perform a skill at the end of your run when performing
5
How and where did you do this approach
Describe Question How and where did you do this approach
6
Describe Question 'I performed this approach around a 25 x 25 meter square for 15 minutes in total. Throughout the session, I performed at the following paces on the following touchlines: up one line, I walked the whole way; on the next line I did a slow jog; down the nest line, I did a 3/4 pace run the whole way; and then I did a full sprint down the final line before repeating over and over again. During this approach, my partner counted how many laps I did for monitoring purposes.
7
Explain Question For each benefit that you make for fartlek training, follow this up with a positive impact that this has on your performance
8
Explain Question 'Firstly, Fartlek Training is useful because it is specific to the changing of paces in football.' (BENEFIT). 'As a result of this, it means that when it reaches the latter stages of a game, I will still feel fresh enough to accelerate up the pitch to support my team's counter attack and provide my team mate with another option to create a goal scoring opportunity for my team.' (POSITIVE IMPACT ON THE GAME)
9
Evaluate Question You need to highlight both benefits and limitations of the approach followed by the impact it has on performance
10
Evaluate Question 'Another limitation to the Fartlek Approach is that it is not specific enough to incorporate skill development when participants are tired.' (LIMITATION). 'As a result of this, even though the participant might have enough energy to perform a sprint up field to support a counter attack late in the game, they might not be able to execute an accurate shot because they have not got experience of focusing on these sub-routines after making this sprint at the end of a game/session. This missed chance can be the difference between winning and drawing.' (NEGATIVE IMPACT ON THE GAME).
11
Analyse Question Highlight a benefit followed by the positive impact it has on performance then highlight a limitation but come up with a solution to this limitation
12
Analyse Question This is because if I simply performed Fartlek Training on my own, I might lose count of my laps and not know if I have reached my quantitative short-term target.' (LIMITATION). 'As a result of this, I will not know how well I am doing, see the approach as being a waste of time and stop trying my hardest because I start to get bored.'(NEGATIVE IMPACT). 'However, if I have a partner counting my number of laps, I will know how well I am doing as the session goes on and how close I am to fulfilling my goal.' (BENEFIT). 'This means that I will give 100% throughout the whole session as I strive to meet my goal and as a result, I will improve my CRE because I am actually trying my hardest.' (POSITIVE IMPACT).
13
Question Analyse an approach that you could use to develop the physical factor of CRE
14
Layout Para 1 – Limitation of approach followed by the impact it has on how well you carry out the performance Para 2 – solution linking to the limitation above followed by the positive impact it will have Para 3 – different limitation Para 4 - solution
