Break-out Exploration
Select one of the books and and read it with your group – what themes or perspectives are evident, which are not? What critical questions could this book help answer? How could it help students better understand writing? Think about how you could incorporate art, dramatic play, music, etc. to extend student’s understanding of different perspectives, identities, in/justices, etc. that could help them write “deeper and more abundantly” Use the supplies provided to re-present a perspective, issue, identity, solution, etc. in the book in a creative way to extend understanding both as a reader and writer.
9
Gallery Walk Take some time to walk around and look at other participants’ efforts. What are the affordances of combining art, drama, etc. with writing?
